AMUSEMENT/WATER PARKS

Spend some time leisurely tubing or catching a wave at Six Flags Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Water Park where the temperature stays at a balmy 80 degrees.  Play in the Tall Timbers Tree House or experience the thrill of white water rafting all in the safety of this 38,000 square foot park.

The Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono Mountains, PA is part of a chain of the largest water parks in the US. In addition to a water park, each resort features specialty restaurants, arcades, spas, fitness rooms and children’s activity areas. There is truly something for everyone!

 MUSEUMS

The Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, PA aims to bring together the past, present and future through six interactive exhibit zones, including four areas specifically designed for children 3 and younger.  Kids and their grown-ups will also delight in riding the beautifully restored 1908 Woodside Park Dentzel Carousel.

Come learn and play at the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum in Poughkeepsie.  Our exhibits focus on nature, science, literacy, art, music and community. Check out our newest exhibit, “Fun 2, 3, 4” which makes learning math fun through sixteen hands-on exhibits.

Want to learn about the Native Americans who inhabited our area? Head on over to Washington, CT where you will find, tucked away in the woods, The Institute of American Indian Studies Museum and Research Center. Storytelling, music, archaeology, history and nature are used to engage and inform people about those who lived here before us.

Stepping Stones Museum For Children in Norwalk, CT provides fun filled learning opportunities for kids and families through hands-on exhibits. From the challenging concepts found in our landmark Energy Lab to the small wonders of Tot Town and beyond, children will embark on new and unexpected adventures they won’t experience anyplace else.

The Children’s Museum at Saratoga, in Saratoga Springs, NY, is developmentally appropriate for children age 7 and under, but will appeal to older children as well. There are two floors of interactive displays that will encourage children to use their imagination and inspire curiosity.

The CNSE Children's Museum of Science and Technology is part of the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE.) Its mission to "instill a sense of wonder and discovery in young minds, inspiring a lifelong exploration of science and technology”.  From toddlers to teens, your child may be inspired to become future scientists here!

The New England Carousel Museum in Bristol, CT is dedicated to the acquisition, restoration, and preservation of operating carousels and carousel memorabilia and the creation of new carousel material, for the education and pleasure of the general public. It houses one of the largest collections of antique carousel pieces in the United States.

Opened in 1951, the Harness Racing Museum and Hall Of Fame in Goshen, NY  showcases the history of harness racing. The neighboring half-mile Historic Track is a National Historic Landmark and is the oldest harness horse track still in use in the United States. Stables still operate on the grounds and races are held annually.

The mission of the New York City Fire Museum is to collect, preserve and present the history and cultural heritage of the fire service of New York and to provide fire prevention and safety education to the public, especially children.

The Fireman’s Association of the State of NY (FASNY) Museum, in Hudson, NY,   utilizes their collection to convey the proud story of the American firefighter in new and exciting exhibits throughout the Museum.

Math buffs, you are in luck! There is a math museum right in our backyard! Math….Physics…Explore in Poughkeepsie, NY has 30 math exhibits and offers help with math skills from pre-k  to college.

Who knew that we had a sports museum dedicated to the athletes of Dutchess County?! TheSports Museum of Dutchess County  includes mementos and displays from Hall of Famers and others who played sports in Dutchess.

ZOOS/AQUARIUMS

The Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, CT is a wonderful place to visit – even in the winter! Spend the day and see more than 300 animals representing primarily North and South American species. The Zoo plans fun and educational special events and programs all year.

The Bronx Zoo, Bronx, NY is also open this winter. With 4,000 modern day animals to see, the kids are sure to find their favorite!

The Maritime Aquarium, Norwalk CT, is different from most aquariums in that they focus solely on one body of water: Long Island Sound.  Besides the aquatic animals, you can also catch an IMAX movie while you’re there.

MISCELLANEOUS

Did you know that we have an observatory right here in our backyard? The John J McCarthy Observatory in New Milford, CT is a world-class astronomical observatory that is open to the public. Bring your budding astronauts to get a close-up glimpse of space. 

LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Yonkers, NY offers educational activities and kids attractions inside the biggest box of LEGO®. Children will have access to interactive play areas, Lego rides and a 4D cinema, and will even be able to dive into a pool of soft Lego bricks.

Fahnestock Winter Park in Kent, NY Situated in the heart of the Hudson Valley, the park is nestled in the 16,000 acre Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park. FWP offers 15 km of machine groomed, tracked and mapped trails for beginning and experienced skiers and snowshoers. Families find the park particularly enjoyable because it offers easy terrain to ski on near the lodge. The sledding hill and hot chocolate to sip in front of the outdoor fireplace are nice compliments to day-long trips.
