Review: Sofia The First The Curse of Princess Ivy

Royal Sisters to the Rescue!

By Tracy Gallagher, Hopewell Junction Macaroni Kid November 18, 2014
Sofia The First The Curse of Princess Ivy is so cute! I will admit, I was slightly worried if the movie would hold every ones attention for the entire 45 minutes, and I'm pleased to say that the kids were glued to the movie (some moms too!). Several of the prince and princesses that attended were dancing in their seats, which was very cute to see. I was also happy to see that Princess Ivy herself was not scary at all. One of the children attending was a little afraid she would be, and I don't believe a single child at the premier was afraid of her when she came on screen (phew!).

Before we started the movie, we enjoyed coloring butterflies, word searches on Sofia place mats, wearing our crowns and more. These fun crafts were provided by Disney Junior and were a hit with the kids. Each and every one of them were happy to take home their goodies including a movie poster and Sofia stickers to decorate with.

If you have not seen the previews for this all new Sofia The First Movie, I promise you you will not want to miss it. The story line is very easy for children to follow and teaches in my opinion a very important message: Families always look out for each other. Amber (Sofia's step-sister) becomes jealous that Sofia has a special amulet and wants to use it "just once". During a sleepover, Amber takes the necklace from a sleeping Sofia and brings Princess Ivy to Enchancia. Without giving to much of the movie plot away, Amber and Sofia along with a special appearance by Rapunzel have to get the amulet back before Princess Ivy takes the crown and turns all of Enchania black and white. Throw in some adorable singing Dragons, Cedric the Sorcerer who has lost his wand AND memory as well as all your favorite members of the royal family and you have one heck of a cute story.

While Sofia The First is geared toward pre-schoolers, we had children attend the premier from 19 months to 9 years old and they several asked to watch it again when it was over. You and you family can enjoy Sofia The First The Curse of Princess Ivy on November 23rd at 7pm on Disney Channel. Check your local listings for exact channel. It will be a special family night for sure!
