Review: Diggerland USA

A must add to your bucket list of things to do with the kids!

By Tracy Gallagher, Hopewell Junction Macaroni Kid July 29, 2014
We pull into the parking lot of Diggerland USA, and my boys yell from the back seat: "This is going to be AWESOME!" And awesome it was. I have never seen the boys (and my husband) bolt out of the car so fast for an amusement park.

Jared was thrilled to be able to drive a backhoe! Yes a real backhoe my 11 year old was able to drive (a ride operator was also in the cab). The modified JCB 3CX backhoe, was probably his favorite ride of the park.

Nathaniel loved the mini-Land Rover that he was able to drive on a kid friendly course (no rails, or track to guide you). He must have driven the Rover a dozen times. He kept asking to go back! I can't imagine how much he will love driving later in life.

Want a thrill ride? Give the Spin Dizzy a whirl. I stayed on the ground with our youngest, but my husband and older boys went on several times. The specially designed 3 ton high, torque JCB JS220 will spin you FAST (must be 48" for this ride). I can say that at every ride, the attendant did measure the boys to make sure they met the height requirement. We really appreciated their concern for safety.

It is a safe to say that the boys had a ball controlling diggers of all sizes, skid -steers and dump trucks. They would have stayed there all day long.

I especially liked that there was no additional fee for the rock climbing wall, or the ropes course (parent does need to sign a waiver so make sure to bring your DL) like there is at most places. The boys did the ropes course a few times and my husband and I each braved the 4 stories course with them. 4 stories doesn't sound that tall, but trust me when you are up there it is! For your little ones there is a playground and 2 rides for the under 36" crowd.

While outside food is not permitted into the park, you are welcome to leave and return into the park if you would like to picnic in your car, or forgot something. Food prices and the arcade are what you would expect at a park of this type. Remember to bring the sun block as there is not much shade, and sneakers! I wouldn't want to drive those big machines in anything but! I did see some in flip flops but I wouldn't recommend it.

We will happily return to Diggerland next Summer. For more information, tickets, hours etc. please visit Diggerland USA's website
