Our family was fortunate enough to be invited to see Walking With Dinosaurs last night at the Barclay Center. Going into the theater, I really had no idea what to expect from this show. Since my four year old son is so crazy about dinosaurs, though, we just had to go and see what it was all about. Let's just say we were not disappointed.
The show is basically a very elaborate show of life-size animatronics and costumes combined with a live action documentary. It is narrated by a paleontologist who walks the audience through the prehistoric age of dinosaurs through little scenarios starring these huge dinosaurs. They really look lifelike in their size, their looks and their movements. We were just in awe of the dinosaurs and couldn't wait to see the next one come out on stage, making the show go very fast. The show was about two hours long but it seemed like half that time because we were constantly anticipating which dinosaur we would see next and what it would do. All of the dinosaurs made their way around the arena, roaring and looking at the audience from all angles giving everyone a good look at them. These creatures are so huge, that there really isn't a bad seat in the house. It was hard not to see them. Some of them reached as high as the ceiling!
My family really enjoyed this show. We are huge dinosaur enthusiasts and have come to be very knowledgeable in the subject thanks to my son’s obsession. For us, it was so cool to see this world come to life right before our eyes. It was totally different than anything we have ever seen before and it is unlike any other child oriented show out there. It is very educational and entertaining without the corny characters and annoying songs found on TV.
