Community Awareness: March of Dimes Personal Story

By Jennifer Gilmore May 1, 2012

Jennifer Gilmore is a local mom and friend of Macaroni Kid.  We are re-running her story from last week in hopes our fellow community members will support her as much as we do.

My name is Jennifer Gilmore.  I am a mom with a sad story.  About one year ago, I was pregnant with my second daughter.  At 19 weeks I developed Pre-Ecplamsia and HELP Syndrome, a problem where your blood pressure is so high it starts shutting down your liver and kidneys.  Death from a stroke or heart attack within a few days was looming.   My kidneys and liver were already failing.  I was dying.

I delivered my daughter, Christina Maria Gilmore, at 20 weeks and 3 days.  She was only 12 ounces, 11 inches long and she lived in the NICU for 15 days.

After her death I had two choices.  One was to sleep my life away and do nothing.

The second was to get up and do something so this wouldn't happen to anyone else.  I chose choice two.

In the last year I have given children's charities almost $9,000 to help their causes.  My Tastefully Simple business has *all* earnings go to The March of Dimes *all* the time.  I am in the process of opening CMG Fundraising Foundation which will help many different charities, helping with fundraising success, and helping them accomplish their goals.

Over the next few months, we will have many events and it starts with May 6th.  It starts with you.  Join us at the Walkway over the Hudson Walk for Babies on May 6th. You can donate to the team at http://www.marchforbabies.org/jhbg, join our team, or just come spend the day and see what an amazing group of people are around you.

We are team CMG Angels walking for Christina.  I hope that you can join us.

In the coming months Macaroni Kid will keep our readers informed of all the great activities Jen is putting together for our community.  June will be a celebrity dinner and auction plus a Penny Social, an Antique Car Show in July, an All-Star Concert in August, Bikers for Babies and the first Christina Maria Gilmore Trike-A-Thon both in September, and more.  Keep your eyes and ears open as we help our community support one another.
