Review: The Hunger Games: The Exhibition

Now at Discovery Times Square

August 25, 2015

I checked out the Hunger Games exhibit last  Sunday morning, its located in Discovery Time Square where I’ve visited the Bodies and Avengers exhibits. The experience started out with a short video projected on the wall explaining the premise behind the hunger games and how it related to the current world we live in. You begin in District 12 and follow along with Katniss as she emergence as the Mockingjay.

The exhibit is made up of numerous costumes from the films including the Mockingjay dress and Mockingjay armor, background materials and interactive displays. The hands-on interactive display included a stunt choreography simulator, and a map of Panem complete with District 12, District 13, The Capitol, and the Tribute Train. The background information explained how/ why they shot certain scenes in the films, giving more of an in-depth experience into theHunger Games world. The exhibit is full of photo op and more excitingly video ops. The last stop on the journey is an opportunity to be a part of the chariot scene with the use of green screen technology.

If you’re a huge Hunger Games fan this is the place for you, following along Katniss’ inspirational journey. If you haven’t seen the films or have no interest you will find the exhibit pretty unappealing. The whole thing takes about an hour to complete but you are welcomed to walk at your own pace and take your time exploring.

The exhibition will run at Discovery Times Square through January 3, 2016 and will then embark on a global tour. Individual tickets will go on sale April 21st with prices starting at $22.50. In advance of the ticket on sale date and to service the anticipated demand for individual tickets, a ticket pre-registration window will begin on Feb 24th. In addition to receiving an opportunity to buy tickets before the general public, ticket pre-registrants will also receive exclusive exhibition content and updates and be automatically entered into a sweepstakes to attend the exhibition premier at Discovery Times Square.
