Review: Renaissance Faire, Tuxedo NY

Now through 9/27

By E. Gallagher August 25, 2015

Our family is no stranger to the New York Renaissance Faire in nearby Tuxedo NY. We have been going for years and the kids look forward to going and this year was no exception. They immediately picked out a date when the tickets arrived and this past Sunday was the day. The boys talked about it all.week.long. ALL WEEK! Ren Faire is

If you have never been the drive is about an hour from Putnam County and pretty easy. Parking is free once you arrive, unless you would like preferred parking which is $10 and much closer. It is an uphill walk from the free parking lot to the Ren Faire but it's not to bad.

This year we checked out a new show Hey Nunnie Nunnie, which was very funny. It has been at the Faire for a few year but we just never got a chance to see it. This year there are a few more shows and stages then in years past and the times associated with the shows are nicely spread out so you can see many different ones over the course of the day. Some we skip as we have seen them before or they are PG13 or R and not suitable for kids. The show schedule does indicate which of the shows are not for young kids. One day we will see those just won't be for a while.

If you get hungry there are so many different food choices, really something for everyone. It can be a little expensive but we do expect that at this kind of event. The kids chowed down on turkey legs, chili and roast beef. We did bring in our own water which was helpful since there isn't a ton of shade and it can get hot (bring sun screen!). If you want a cold adult beverage they have everything from Meed to Wine and Beer. Alcoholic beverages are only allowed in certain areas and they do check your ID.

If the kids some place to call their own, stop by the Kidsquest. There are additional fees and honestly we didn't go there since the kids were happy with what we were doing. Throughout the Faire grounds there is plenty of shopping, strolling actors engaging visitors and lots to see and do. You really can spend the entire day from opening to closing there and have a great time. You have a few weeks left until the Faire is gone until next August, so if you are planning on going do it soon!
